Starting up a new unit for production of Oxycellulose

Today, Synthesia, a.s. has opened a new unit for production of oxycellulose. The new plant brings the  possibility of producing this unique product in the working environment compliant with the requirements of foreign customers.

At a cost of CZK 150 million Synthesia, a.s. has built in its territory in the Pardubice area a brand new plant for the production of oxidised cellulose. Oxycellulose R&D and production in Synthesia have a relatively long history. Synthesia, a.s. is also the second company worldwide which is capable of producing oxidised cellulose in the required application form and quality. The uniqueness of oxycellulose, also called the material of the future, is based on its unique properties. It has found applications as a haemostatic during operations on human organs, in particular on the viscera (internal organs), during the healing of burns and as a means to stop everyday bleeding. It is produced from renewable natural starting materials (cellulose) and its production does not generate any waste. To explain its use in simple words - it is a bandage that can stop bleeding, prevent the spread of infection and if it is left in the human body, it will decompose, leaving no residue. In addition to use in medicine areas, Oxycellulose finds application in cosmetics, for healing chronic wounds (e.g. ulcers), in dental medicine and other areas.

The newly built plant is equipped to be able to produce two application forms of oxidised cellulose –  textile and powder forms,  including their final processing, packaging and shipping. The production plant has been designed to enable future expansion of the production. This project was financially supported from the resources of the Czech state budget and from EU Structural funds, via the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. Participating on the Project executions were VÚOS a.s., the University of Pardubice and other research workplaces.
